Winter oil spill training on Great Lakes underway

Members of the U.S. Coast Guard, Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, oil spill response organizations, Enbridge Energy Partners and several other agencies are scheduled to participate in a unique exercise out of St. Ignace, MI, Monday through Wednesday, during which several techniques for recovering spilled oil and other hazardous materials from icy waterways will be tested and evaluated.

Coast Guard, other environmental response agencies to practice recovering oil from icy water

A NOTE FROM THE COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN ON THE UP COMING 2012 CONFERENCE

The Committee would like to thank all who participated and contributed to the success of our last NOSPILL conference held in January 2011 at the Great Wolf Lodge.  The inspiration, commitment and support of all of the attendees, vendors, speakers, organizations and stakeholders to the protection of our Great Lakes, tributaries and the Environment is so commendable.  This should be emulated by all levels of government, business, planners and responders to secure a brighter future for all.

Considerable work has been completed for next years’ conference,

“Emerging Technologies to Safeguard our Waters”

With the conference approaching there is more work remaining.  The Committee and I are committed to this time as a time to renew the spirit of NOSPILLS, and to make this a premier event.  We will again hold our conference at the Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City, Michigan, beginning with early registration during the late afternoon of 8 January 2012, and ending at noon of 11 January 2012.

The agenda is proving to be a very insightful series of communications which will bring significant information to all attendees of the conference.  Our commitment to the vendors, who support our conference, is being addressed by having a section of the building segregated from the meeting hall.  Where the attendees will be having all breaks; our intent is to create a common ground between vendors and participants.  We encourage you all to consider attending, and if you can bring your family to the very family-oriented environment of Great Wolf Lodge.

In addition, the committee is working to design methods of registration which will prove to be very secure and easy to use.  Those methods will be put onto the website in the very near future for your benefit.

Thank you for considering the upcoming conference of your NOSPILL committee.
